Tourist Path  "Peklo"

Map - Tourist Path "Peklo"

From the tourist paths crossroad Na Rychtě we walk up along yellow sign to the Sokolovna. Below it we turn left. Yellow sign takes us by the sports complex to the next crossroad and from it through family houses as far as end of town. To Přibyslav we still mount up the state road. At the municipal reservoir we can for the first time enjoy a look back at plains of Česká Skalice and Jaroměř. Glittering Rozkoš and softly waved landscape will attract our attention from more places. Even more above the sculpture of Virgin Mary, almost on the top of the climb. The road lined with young rowan trees takes us, after a while, in the middle of the municipality of Přibyslav. We are at the stony cross and the monument dedicated to memory of four local natives fallen in the World War 1. From the square we continue along green and yellow. 500 meters of walk and we are at the crossroad at the stony cross.

We can choose both the ways, to the right and to the left. Along the yellow sign to Koníček or along the green sign directly to Peklo. Trip along green is shorter and climb is already over. Soon we enter the forest and in its shadow we descend along the steep slope as far as the Metuje River. A stony path on the right bank of the Metuje River will take us across the bridge to the road from Nové Město nad Metují, and along the road it is only 300 m to the tourist chalet of Peklo. The former mill called Pekelec has been rebuilt to the holiday restaurant in 1912 by the architect Dušan Jurkovič. We are at the confluence of the Metuje River and Olešenka.

Tourist Path "Slavoňov"

Our trip starts at the information center. From the observation terrace we can first admire valley in the direction to the Metuje River. Behind us the ancient tower of Zázvorka grows, which remained here as a remnant of the Regional Gate. We walk towards the Hus square. Just behind the shop with the cyclist equipment we turn left along tourist signs and pass through Zadomí, from where there are nice views of the river valley as well as the arenaceous massive. We go through a passage next to the municipal museum and we find ourselves in a nicely adapted Hilden Atrium. We continue along the marked tourist path and on the left hand we can see a repaired parsonage garden house. We stop at the sculpture of the founder of our town, Jan Černčický of Kácov, and along the Church of the Holy Trinity we continue through Zadomí as far as the place where the Mountain Gate stood some time ago.

We continue down along the street Českých bratří and after ca five minutes we’ll notice about 500 years old yew-tree on the left hand, the oldest tree in the Nové Město region. On our right hand then we pass by St. John of Nepomuk Chapel. We go across the Sepský Bridge and we continue along the yellow tourist sign to Klopotovská street. Passing by a complex of company buildings we turn right after ca 200 m to the forest paths to the Klopotovské Valley and along it we continue as far as the village of Slavoňov. We turn to the church along the blue sign to the left. Short 80 m of climb and we are at the round graveyard wall and the gate.

Tourist Path "Over the Sendražský Hill to Náchod"

Our trip starts in the railway station of the Czech Railways in Nové Město nad Metují. Blue tourist sign will take us along the river lined from both sides with alley of maples as far as Rychta. We pass gentle steep in length of 1.1. km in the town build-up area, by the movie theater, bus station to the main tourist signboard. From here we continue along four tourist signs up the Komenského třída to the Husovo náměstí. (See the path Slavoňov). Below the square we go down along the paved road as far as the wooden house, where we turn left from the main road. After another short steep descent down the street Pod Hradbami we go along blue and green sign to the Metuje River, a bit behind the road bridge the blue sign turns right, however we continue along the climbing unmetalled road to the edge between valley of the Metuje River and the Libchyňský Brook. The contoured path then follows the right bank slope of the Libchyňský Brook. We pass by numerous rock blowouts of Nové Město phyllites as well as the “Stony Sluice”.

Soon we leave the forest. From the unmetalled road we pass to the local asphalt road, which takes us by dwelled houses as far as the square. Along the green tourist sign we continue in direction of Sendráž. At a new modern building of the municipal council we turn left and pass to an unmetalled field road. The climb ends in the road from Jestřebí to Sendráž. Tourist signs in blue and green colors show us direction of further climb. In the local road the green sign leaves us after 120 meters. We continue next 400 meters, reach the water tank and after next 200 meters an observation point. Then we descend the hill until we reach Peklo.

Tourist Path "Vršovka–Halín–Pagan Burial Ground–Běstviny–Spy"

From the tourist signpost Na Rychtě we go up along the municipal ring towards the square. At the Hotel Metuje we turn to the right street and we descend by low houses as far as the upper edge of the valley slopes of the Metuje River. Here (500 m) we turn right. Graveled path will take us to the Metuje River. Behind the bridge we pass a short plain and then we go along 300 meters long climb by fenced gardens. On its top we reach the field, 400 meters long plain next the gardens forces us to watch more the chateau than gardens. We cross the top plain via the field path. From the municipal ring we reach it by turning right in the place where the green sign again goes down the valley. We reach the edge of the forest, the upper edge of the valley slope of the Janovský Brook. In the crossroad we turn left. Then, after 500 meters, we turn right and through the forest we go down to the Janovský Brook. The preserve is immediately behind the bridge and after a short climb we reach its main gate. We cross the meadow, go up a 350 meter long climb in the forest and at its end we found ourselves 180 meters off the road Nové Město nad Metují – Rychnov nad Kněžnou. We cross the busy road and continue straightforward across the field as far as the forest. We turn right and pass the table informing us that we have just reached Vršovka. In the village, in the first road crossing we turn left and comfortably pass to the next road crossing. However we don’t turn anywhere and continue. We will follow our left hand in the next road crossing in the shape of letter Y. 200 meters and we are in the last crossroad in the local road. Now we turn right. We cross 100 meters across the field to the promontory of the forest and along an unmarked field road we turn to the right. After a moment we reach another forest promontory. We follow the edge of the oak wood as far as the second turn to the forest. We take it, but we don’t leave it and descent it directly along a gentle slope, which will take us as far as the edge of the forest, where the crossroad in shape of Y is. We turn left.

In 1.4. km we leave the forests again. We should be careful and turn right . The road will take as to the dam of the artificial lake Halín. Voices of its inhabitants as well as big oaks on the dam welcome us. Her we carefully cross and walking along the path in the marsh we follow the lake bank in eastern direction as far as the wide, rutted road. Then we get to a metalled forest road and along it we reach the crossing of forest roads. Here we turn right and along the straight road we descend to the deserted gamekeeper’s lodge Halín. At the lodge we turn left and follow the left edge of the Halín forest from the field.

From the field crossing we again reach forest and on 880 m we enter it. We surmount the elevation and we reach its top behind the forest. At the building of the company “Holada a spol.” we turn right and along the road we reach the top with a nice view of the Orlické Mountains. We go down 400 meters along the road to the Janovský Brook and then we climb ca 200 meters up the hill. We get to the red tourist sign, which is going to take us back as far as Nové Město nad Metují.

Tourist Path "Ohnišov-Rokole"

Joined red, blue, green and yellow tourist signs will take us from Rychta to Husovo square. We leave blue and green sign a little bit behind it and passing by the oldest yew in the county of Náchod we descend red and yellow signs as far as the bridge across the Metuje River. Behind the bridge we turn right, following the red sign along the main road. But only for 160 meters, since we have to turn to the staircase. We climb 190 meters through forest as far as the upper edge of the arenaceous slope. Above the forest, left from the road, we cannot miss a metal cross of 1866. We pas by fenced gardens as far as a narrow asphalt road on the top of the climb and along it to the main road. In the crossing we should notice a stony cross between two trees. Red color will lead us to the village, however it turns after 130 meters to the left behind the first building to the field road, which is how we avoid Spy. In front of us there is 5 km of quiet trip upstream the Janovský Brook. We’ll be passing across wooden bridges in narrow rocky passes in phyllites of Nové Město. In the middle of the trip to Ohnišov we reach the dam of the fishing lake in Zákraví. We still follow the red sign as far as Ohnišov. After 4.8 km of walk in the valley we found ourselves on the main road and turn to the left.

We continue upstream the Janovský Brook following the red sign. We pass through the village along a local asphalt road by the regulated flow and bathing pool. After 1.5 km we pass by weekend houses and later on by two hamlets. On 2.8 km we leave the red sign at the dam of another artificial lake. We turn to the left following the yellow sign. We go up the right edge of the valley and we immediately will see individual outhouses of the village Janov. Following the narrow road we, going almost on the plain, between next-to-house gardens the road reaches the grocery store and the bus stop. From the tourist signpost we will continue along blue till Tis. On a short, 800 meters long section we walk along the road. From Tis we will follow the blue sign for next 340 meters. Then, in the road climb, the sign will leave us. We don’t turn, but we continue along the road as far as the top. From the observation point we descend to the right and via a grassy road we reach in a moment the well-known Marian pilgrimage spot Rokole. From the former Rokole inn we walk along the road to the Olešenka River. We go across the intersection, turn left and when we terminate 1.7 km long climb, we are in the square in Nový Hrádek.

Jirásek’s red signed path will take us back to Nové Město nad Metují. We descend the street between attached houses in direction towards the castle of Frymburk. In the crossroad at the stony cross we turn right and behind the last house we get to the narrow path. 500 meters long “fall” to the deep valley of the River of Olešenka we can manage without problem along a narrow forest path. We pass to the valley road at Kovodružstvo. The red sign turns right and it will take us for next 5.5 kilometers to Peklo.
